Every music scene needs its court jesters, and Chicago 's Mystechs have become exactly that for the new electropunk underground. And, like their obvious influences Ween , Outkast , and Frank Zappa , the Mystechs use their status as clowns to take bold musical risks that no self-seriously 'cool' band would dare. As FM Sound magazine put it, in a review of the duo's latest album City Folk "The Mystechs break down the rules of music, using synthesizers to delve into all forms from Broadway to hip-hop and twist them up with some punk elements... every track on CIty Folk is a complete and utter surprise."

Band members Nick Dye (bass, drums, vocals) and Emil Hyde (synthesizers, guitars, accordion, raps & screams)  met several years ago, when Nick worked in the print shop where Emil printed flyers for a previous incarnation of the Mystechs.  Upon discovering their common love of Zappa, Ween, Bobby Conn, and Jagermeister, the two threw themselves into a revamped Mystechs project with demented gusto.

Three albums and three tours later, the Mystechs continue to attract a motley cult of fans from all corners of the world and all over the cultural map. As France's Xtazine said, "The Mystechs make music just as fit for singing by the campfire as for shaking one's booty on the dancefloor – equally appealing to headbangers in mosh pits as to showtune-loving grannies."
